Marigold is built in the open by a small group of people who think digital money forgot what cash got right. The software, the papers and this site are public on GitHub, the chain runs as a public testnet that anyone can join, and nothing about it is for sale.
What we do
Build the software, keep the lights on
We write and sign the wallet and the node, in the open, under an open-source licence. We run what a public testnet needs to be usable on day one: the public node that a fresh wallet connects to, an archival node that keeps the whole history, the faucet that hands out test notes, and the release channel that tells a wallet when a newer version exists. Every one of those is a convenience, not a dependency: a wallet can run its own node, anyone can run an archive, and the chain does not know we exist.
The company
marigold.cash Ltd
A company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales. Marigold.cash Ltd, company number 17514169, registered on 12 October 2026.
A company limited by guarantee has no shareholders and pays no dividends. The articles carry open-source clauses: the software the company publishes stays under an open-source licence, and the company cannot be turned into something that sells it.
What the company holds: the name, the domain, the keys that sign the releases, and the services listed above. What it does not hold: the coin. Nobody issues Marigold; it is mined, and the chain's rules decide who gets what. There is no token sale, no presale and nothing to buy, and if someone offers you Marigold for money before the network launches, they are not us.
The registrar
What the chain cannot check, someone has to
Almost everything on Marigold is checked by the chain itself: a note is real or it is not, a company's lane belongs to whoever claimed it first, a proof verifies or it does not. A few things are facts about the world that no chain can check, and for those the company acts as the registrar.
The first such thing is before our testers now: a proposal to pay shops that take Marigold at the till, a small share of the block reward as a thank-you for taking Marigold. But this is only for verified, genuine shops. Checking that a business is real is the registrar's work, and so is taking a till off the register when the shop closes or the device is stolen. The rules the registrar works by, how a shop is verified, revoked and appealed, are written and published before the first shop is registered, and the design is public while it is being discussed.
Company lanes need no registrar. The chain is the registry: the first valid claim of a tag holds it, and nobody keeps a list.
